Just typical! We fly off to the USA for The Future of Protein Production Chicago and all the great stories this week emanate from Europe! They still didn’t escape our notice, however, even from 4,000 miles away…

Two of the most-read stories came from the Netherlands, with one Dutch food-tech company successfully hosting the first-ever legally approved cultivated meat tasting in the European Union. At the same time, there was €40 million (US$42.5 million) in new capital raised to finance the next phase of development for another Dutch pioneer in the cultivated meat sector.

Elsewhere, we were pleased to catch up with Future of Protein Production Chicago speakers, including Stantec’s David Ziskind, VegTech Invest’s Elysabeth Alfano, GEA Group’s Arpad Csay, unClassic Foods’ Luiza Villela, and Julieta Cardenas from Sentient, bringing an end to our series of speaker profiles for our Chicago event.

Meanwhile, a San Francisco-based molecular farming specialist and maker of an animal-free dairy brand has revealed a tenth patent: this time for Recombinant Milk Proteins and Food Compositions Comprising the Same, which focuses on dairy food compositions containing plant-expressed recombinant casein proteins.

And, finally, good news for pets… a worldwide supplier of plant-based non-GMO and organic food ingredients has revealed its move into the pet-food sector, with a focus on supplying starches, sweeteners, proteins, and fibers.

Over the next few days, we’ll be reporting from McCormick Place in Chicago, with updates from the conference, speaker interviews, visitor feedback, and more. Until next week, see y’all!
