First up in our stories this week, a food innovation platform is partnering with corporate giants to explore biomass fermentation, with 14 promising startups participating in a hands-on program to develop new food products. Protein Production Technology International is proud to be a media partner of this unique Growth Hack!
In investment news, a Spanish plant-based food technology company has raised €17.4 million in Series A funding, which will be used to expand operations, launch new products, and scale production. Elsewhere, a French biotech startup has secured €3.75 million in additional funding to scale up its production of animal-free casein. And if that wasn’t enough, a Copenhagen-based startup has secured a €20 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The investment will be used to build a new production facility, invest in R&D, and increase market reach.
Meanwhile, a global alternative seafood association has added 17 new members, bringing its total to 53 companies in 17 countries. The new members represent diverse technologies and locations, working towards sustainable and delicious seafood solutions to address the pressing challenges facing the world's oceans.
And a German research team has also developed a 'power-to-protein' system that uses microbes to produce essential nutrients like protein and vitamin B9. This technology could revolutionize food production by offering a sustainable and scalable way to produce food, especially in regions with limited agricultural resources.
And don’t forget you can catch up with some of the speakers appearing on the +100-strong agenda of experts starring in The Future of Protein Production Amsterdam, taking place in the Netherlands on 23/24 October. This week, we have spoken with Lily Nur Sulaiman, Senior Research Scientist, THIS and Ida Søndergaard, Regulatory Affairs Manager, Solar Foods

You can register right now for this month’s free-to-attend Protein Production Technology International webinar, taking place Wednesday 25 September 2024 at 3pm CEST/9am EDT, Accurate inline blending from first batch in pilot scale all the way to full-blown large-scale production, in partnership with KROHNE Food & Beverage.
In this fireside chat with Ryan Kromhout, Global Industry Division Manager Food & Beverage at KROHNE, we will delve into the challenges of producing plant-based meat and fish analogs, focusing on cost, efficiency, and texture. KROHNE, a leader in process measurement, offers a solution: real-time, inline weighing of plant-based slurries. This enables continuous production, eliminates process interruptions, and tightens production tolerances. By optimizing production, producers can reduce costs and ensure consistent product quality.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Ryan and interact through a Q&A session.

🎙️💡Listen to the latest episode now! In this episode, we explore the vital role of precision analysis in advancing alternative proteins. Sponsored by Xylem and C. Gerhardt GmbH, Decoding Alternative Proteins: The Power of Precision Analysis, focuses on how advanced lab equipment is transforming protein content and quality assessment for plant-based, insect, and fermentation-derived proteins.
Expert speakers, including Patrick Sudwischer from IFF Braunschweig, Zoe Wang from AGT Foods Canada, Michelle Kuzio from Xylem Laboratory Solutions, Lukas Zibula from C. Gerhardt GmbH, and Dr. Ismail Acir from the University of Bonn, discuss the challenges and solutions in nutritional profiling, accurate protein determination, and regulatory compliance.🎙️💡
